Our Banners and Bands Exhibition is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, until Saturday, 17th December 2022, in the East Unit of Mansfield Railway Station, Station Road, Mansfield, Notts, NG18 1LP.
All the Banners in this Exhibition were created after the 1984/85 strike. At that time the assets, including the Banners of the NUM, were sequestered by the Courts and given to the UDM.
In 2014, these Banners were briefly transferred to the Nottinghamshire Coalfield Banners Trust and were stored at Mansfield Museum whilst their condition was assessed by the People’s History Museum. The banners were removed by the UDM and are not available for public viewing.
A recent request for these Banners to be transferred to the Nottinghamshire Mining Museum, for their appropriate conservation, has been turned down.
We remain hopeful, that one day, all Nottinghamshire’s coalfield banners will be united, appropriately conserved and available for public viewing
