INVITATION AND GOOD NEWS TO REPORT

SHINING A LIGHT; MUSEUM IN THE PARK – PROJECT TO CREATE A MINING SCULPTURE ON THE MINERS’ PARK, BERRY HILL, MANSFIELD
We have good news to report! With the funding we have received from the UK Prosperity Fund we have completed Phase I of our project to create the Shining a Light: Museum in the Park, mining sculpture.
Phase I was to create a maquette (small model) of the sculpture, after public consultation. All stages of Phase I are now complete.
We will be holding our first public viewing of the scale model sculpture at the Hands on Heritage Day at Mansfield Library on Saturday, 17th May, between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.
Rachel Carter, our Artist in Residence, and the sculptor of the model and the final sculpture, will be available to discuss the process of creation and plans for the final sculpture, at the Heritage Day in Mansfield Library.
Thereafter the scale model sculpture will be on permanent display in Nottinghamshire Mining Museum, when we are open, which is Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm until the end of October.
Following further fundraising the final sculpture will incorporate digital links to enable visitors to the Park to connect to Nottinghamshire Mining Museum; to view the artefacts and experience videos that illustrate Nottinghamshire’s coalmining history.
When the community building is complete at Berry Hill Park and with the Trustee’s permission, it would be possible for the sculpture to be displayed in this building on dates to be agreed.
We hope you will come and visit us, either at the Hands on Heritage Day in Mansfield Library on the 17th May, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm or in Nottinghamshire Mining Museum, Thursday, Friday and Saturday,, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
